Dr Savita Karthikeyan

DPhil, MSc, BEng

Senior Scientist

Savita holds a DPhil in Interdisciplinary Bioscience from the University of Oxford, an MSc in Bioinformatics from the University of Edinburgh, and a BEng in Biotechnology from Visvesvaraya Technological University, India. Before her DPhil, she worked at the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit, University of Cambridge, supporting large-scale genetic studies through quality control, statistical phasing and imputation, genome-wide association studies, rare-variant analyses, and meta-analyses. Her career has also included bioinformatics research roles at the Sanger Institute and the Institute of Bioinformatics & Applied Biotechnology, Bangalore, as well as two years as a Systems Engineer at Infosys Technologies in India. During her DPhil, she inferred and analysed ancestral recombination graphs (ARGs) for UK Biobank and led the development of an interactive browser that makes these complex genomic structures easier to explore and interpret. Her areas of specialty include statistical and population genetics, large-scale genomic data analysis, ancestral recombination graphs, and bioinformatics software development.

At Sequoia Genetics, Savita works primarily within the Data Science team, contributing to the analysis and interpretation of large-scale genomic datasets and to the development of robust data resources and workflows.
